Where else are you going to get Portugal’s and specifically Ericeira’s surfing news translated into English? Nowhere else, mate.
Here’s a bit, in case you’re interested
Local surf star Tiago Pires is in Australia to participate in the Australian Open of Surfing, hosted on Manly Beach, outside Sydney. The Australian Open of Surfing is a 6-star event in the ASP World Qualifying Series (WSQ) and runs from the 11th to the 18th of February.
Pires will enter the competition in the second round for heat 8 where he will meet Australian Shaun Cansdell.
You can read more (in Portuguese) on Record and check out the Australian Open of Surfing homepage for info and results about the competition.
The other bit of Ericeira surf news today is more about music than surfing, but never mind about that oversight.
Sumol Summer Fest 2012 has announced the names of the some of the artists that will take the stage this summer in Ericeira. That’s right, dream of the summer in Portugal and what you might be doing, whether or not the economy recovers or things go to the proverbial hell in a hand basket.
Well here they are:
Roots reggae of Ivorian artist Alpha Blondy and minimalist techno of Gui Boratto will alternately relax and stun audiences on the 29th of June. The following night sees the talents of Gabriel o Pensador (Gabriel the Thinker) the celebrated Brazilian rapper and poet, who mixes social criticism with rap-rock.
Don’t worry, I’ve never heard of any of them either, but then again I wouldn’t have. I’m 39 and don’t listen to much Ivorian reggae, Brazilian techno or rap-rock. What’s your excuse?
