Music and surf – summer in Ericeira

Ericeira, Portugal is popping this summer with music and surfing. Here are a couple of events taking place this weekend that are sure to please both the music-lover and surfing enthusiast.

Quik Sessions – Concertos à Sexta is a series of concerts held every Friday at Tiago Pires Boardriders in Ericeira. These exciting live music events are taking place with the aim of promoting young music in Portugal and to bring the talents of new artists to light. Quik Sessions, sponsored by surf company Quiksilver, are free entry and are held in a relaxed atmosphere where music blends with surf and skate-inspired culture.

This Friday, the 26th of August, features music from Portugal-based Australian-Portuguese-Kiwi (phew) singer Jasmin Jones. Check out Jasmin Jones’ acoustic solo music myspace page as well as her work with Portuguese rock band Triplet.

The concert starts at 21.30 (9:30 pm).

Boardriders Quiksilver Ericeira is located on Avenida de São Sebastião, nº36 next to Parque de Campismo near one of Ericeira’s top surfing spots, Praia de Ribeira D’Ilhas.

If it’s competitive surfing you’re after, look no further than the Circuito Inter-Sócios Ericeira Surf Clube, a surf competition sponsored by Billabong. The second stage of the competition takes place on the 27th and 28th of August, also on Ribeira D’Ilhas beach in Ericeira.

Categories for the competition are Open, Under 16, Under-14, Under-12, Feminino (women’s), Longboard, Masters (over 35), Jurassik (over 45) and Classic Retro Open.
