Video: Ericeira is where the pros surf!

Last month Ericeira hosted the Quicksilver Pro Portugal 2011 surfing competition.

The competition ran the week of the 14th – 19th of June and attracted top surfers from all over the world.

The Quicksilver Portugal Pro event is part of the World Qualifying Series (WQS) for professional surfers and is classified as an ASP Prime Event by the Association of Surfing Professionals.

Australian Julian Wilson won the event at Ericeira and performed well throughout the competition, but clinched his victory with an incredible final showing; scoring 19.37 at Ribeira d’Ilhas, one of Ericeira’s top surf spots. Wilson (ranked 30th in the world by ASP) beat strong competitor Brazilian Gabriel Medina in that final heat.

You can check out Julian Wilson’s performances, as well as videos of other heats from the Quicksilver Pro Portugal 2011, highlights and backstage videos on the Quicksilver Live website.

From ESPN:

Wilson tallied a 9.80 and a 9.57 to cruise to his biggest result since qualifying for the ASP World Tour — a result that will assuredly keep him on tour for the second half of the year as the mid-year cutoff looms.
